British music fans awoke this morning to learn that Michael Jackson, American pop legend and cultural icon, has died.The devastating news comes just weeks before he was due to resurrect his pop career, which stretched over 4 decades, with a series of farewell concerts at London O2 arena.
The 50 year old was taken to the University of California medical centre in Los Angeles last night, after going into cardiac arrest, where he did not regain consciousness. His death was announced three hours later.
