How can I get my daughter to wear nicer sunglasses?

 Laurel:

I’ve bought her designer sunglasses, namely Chanel, and she refuses to wear them. She insists on wearing cheap looking $10 sunglasses from Target! I want her to look nice and would like her to use ones that offer better protection from the sun than those cheap ones, but she refuses to wear the expensive ones that I wear and buy for her. Any suggestions?

Nancy:

Just like throw her glasses away….wow ur daughters weird…I would never turn down Channels

Felix S:

Yuck!! You’re annoying. Let your daughter be who she wants to be. maybe she hates the Chanel glasses. Maybe they don’t look good on her. Who cares if she likes the target ones better. Stop being so superficial!

Lillielil:

Maybe she is self-conscious about wearing something so expensive, especially because sunglasses are so easy to lose. Also, if her friends don’t have similarly expensive things, she might feel weird wearing something like that around them.

I would go ahead and let her wear the $10 ones now… she’ll appreciate the designer ones later.

Celine:

I always buy $10 glasses are really good cause i sometimes buy my glasses from there and believe it or not they are just as good as the “name brand one”….she will look nice in any type of glasses….just let her wear what she wants….that is a kind of insulting questions referring to some people…I think that the glasses from target are really nice….most of the time I think that designer glasses are not so nice…..your daughter has her own sense of style let her be who she wants to be and let her wear what she wants to wear…that is not a very good parenting skill…just because they are not allot of money that does not mean that they are not good….never ask a question like that AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aravis:

I’m 12 years old and from personal experience I know that my mom trying to force what I should wear and what I shouldn’t gets really annoying! Even though personally I think it would be awesome to have a mom that bought me Chanel glasses, but everyone has different taste and when someone tries to inflict what you should wear its really gets annoying. But at least it seems that you have good style unlike my mom who wears mom jeans = jeans that come up over your belly button and are extremely dorky.

How do you tell if sunglasses are made of glass?

Bagis:

Hit them very hard with a hammer.

Nearly all glasses are now made out of plastic, even ones made with custom lenses, it’s easier, cheaper to manufacture, and actually can be more accurate than a glass lens.

Also, it’s safer if you get hit in the face!

Samrtyfox:

Tap on one of the lens with your finger nail. if it’s glass it’ll sound like glass. if it doesn’t sound like glass then it isn’t glass. if you don’t know what it sounds like when you tap on glass get a glass jar or something else glass and tap on it.

Paul D:

Slightly less destructive than a hammer is checking by temperature — Glass holds its temperature more.

Compare the feel of anything in a glass jar the fridge to something in plastic. Glass feels cooler than plastic. Or hotter if just out of the dish washer. If you touch a piece of plastic to your cheek it will usually feel room temperature, whereas if you do the same with a piece of room temperature glass it will usually feel somewhat cold.

Also these days they don’t drill holes in glass lenses to attach frames anymore, so if they have a hole to hold the lenses in place then they are plastic. (Unless they were made before the 1980’s) Another way to tell the difference between glass & plastic is to tap it with your teeth…

Do you think its dumb to wear sunglasses during the winter?

Danielle:

No it’s not stupid. Just because it’s winter that doesn’t mean the sun is gone or that it can’t damage your eyes. Wear your sunglasses whenever you need them. Who cares what season it is. Just don’t wear them when you’re inside or when it’s dark, because then you just like you’re trying to be/look cool…and failing at it.

Heather:

The sun shines regardless of the season. Wearing sunglasses has nothing to do with the temperature outside, but rather the amount of UVA and UVB rays that shine during the day, which mind you can also penetrate on cloudy days. Wearing sunglasses is smart during all seasons, as it protects your eyes from cataracts, and the skin around your eye from sun damage. Sunglasses aren’t only a fashion accessory. :)

Emily J:

No way.
I live in San Diego and we get sun almost 365 days a year.
Even if you live where it snows, sometimes light can be blinding when reflecting off of white snow.

Sunglasses Styles and lenses

  • Anti-reflective lenses.  Lenses with an anti-reflexive coating don’t provide much protection from rays, but reduce glare coming off glasses, a benefit to people looking at you. These coatings also provide the added benefit of protecting lenses from scratches.
  • Blublockers.  These typically amber-colored lenses, as the name implies, block blue rays from the sun and prevent glare from snow and water.
  • Fashion-tinted. Although not very good at blocking out UV rays, fashion tints can provide stylish protection on hazy days, or can be worn indoors, and come in most colors, like blue, pink, yellow and green.
  • Gradient lenses.   These lenses are tinted, also as the name implies, in a gradient from top to bottom. Gradient lenses allow enough light in to provide good vision, especially while driving, but provide the most protection from rays coming in from above.
  • Mirrored lenses.  Like a one-way mirror, you can see out, but powerful UV rays can’t come in. Mirrors can come in silver or gold hues, as well as a variety of colors and are highly reflective.
  • Polarized Sunglasses.  Popular with sports enthusiasts, as the plastic lenses won’t easily break, these lenses reduce rays horizontally polarized from glare from snow, water and roads.
  • Photo chromic lenses.  For people who are in and outdoors often, or who require prescription glasses and sunglasses, these lenses darken or lighten depending on the amount of sunlight coming in.
  • Wraparound lenses.  For extra protection from harmful UV rays, wraparound lenses literally curve around the face, providing protection from the side. These lenses are typically plastic, making them good choices for outdoor action.
  • Clip-on Sunglasses.  Which are shaded lenses that clip on directly to your prescription glasses. Clip-ons can literally clip on to your glasses, or can come with a magnetic frame that attaches to your glasses. Fit-overs are another option and are sunglasses designed to fit over prescription lenses, giving you two pairs of glasses, but only requiring the removal of one set of glasses when coming indoors.

Want to pick up a pair of Cheap Sunglasses? You can do that quickly and easily by shopping right here with First-Wholesale.com. Want to know the difference between Cheap Sunglasses and Cheap Looking Sunglasses because there is a difference.

Well the price usually is not a good indication of the quality. Good cheap sunglasses and bad cheap sunglasses can cost the same. A good way to tell the difference is by really looking at the individual sunglasses themselves. You can often tell if items are good quality by looking at them carefully. The weight of an item, and just the way the item looks in general can help you to determine whether the item is good or bad quality.

So should you spend the money on an expensive brand name pair of sunglasses, or should you save the money and buy a good quality pair of cheap sunglasses? Well in my opinion saving the money and looking for good quality cheap sunglasses is the only answer!

What First Wholesale LLC sell here are Replica Sunglasses and Designer Sunglasses that are inexpensive. But nothing is cheaply made it is all excellent quality - the only “cheap” quality is in the price!

Interesting Facts about Eyeglasses

While the origin of eyeglasses is relatively unknown and widely debated, reading glasses first appeared on the scene in Italy around 1260 C.E. They were initially designed to help the elderly in their quest for reading. The reading glasses were insanely popular very quickly but there was one drawback - arms had not been invented for the prescription eyeglasses and the frames kept slipping down the nose! The Spanish tried to remedy this by tying ribbons to the frames and then wrapping them around their ears but the local folks were not so keen on that idea.

Early sunglasses served a special purpose and it wasn’t to block the rays of the sun. Smoke tinting was the first means of darkening eyeglasses, and the technology was developed in China prior to 1430. These darkened lenses were not vision-corrected, nor were they initially intended to reduce solar glare. For centuries, Chinese judges had routinely worn smoke-colored quartz lenses to conceal their eye expressions in court. A judge’s evaluation of evidence as credible or mendacious was to remain secret until a trial’s conclusion.

Sunglasses came on the scene in 1929 when a young innovator, Sam Foster, convinced the Woolworth’s store on the Atlantic City Boardwalk to sell his new brand of sunglasses - Foster Grant. They became an instant sensation in the 1930’s when worn by the era’s most popular movie stars! The American culture has Sam Foster to thank for making something like eye protection from UVA and UVB rays look so cool and hip!

In the 1930s, the Army Air Corps commissioned the optical firm of Bausch & Lomb to produce a highly effective spectacle that would protect pilots from the dangers of high-altitude glare. Company physicists and opticians perfected a special dark-green tint that absorbed light in the yellow band of the spectrum.

With World War II brewing in 1936, Ray Ban designed anti-glare aviator style sunglasses, using polarized lens technology newly created by Edwin H. Land, founder of the Polaroid Corporation.
They also designed a slightly drooping frame perimeter to maximally shield an aviator’s eyes, which repeatedly glanced downward toward a plane’s instrument panel. Fliers were issued the glasses at no charge, and the public in 1937 was able to purchase the model that banned the sun’s rays as Ray-Ban aviator sunglasses.

Price Means Nothing

Whether you’re a long-distance runner, traveling salesperson or bird watcher, the most important reason to wear sunglasses is to protect your eyes against ultraviolet radiation.

Unfortunately, while trying to emulate movie stars and fashion models, consumers often pay top dollar for trendy sunglasses advertised with fancy slogans but offering insufficient protection.

The potential dangers of UV-A are not as well documented, experts believe sunglasses should protect against at least 98 percent of UV-A and UV-B radiation.

In addition to percentage of UV protection, consumers should also consider optical quality, frame construction, proper color vision characteristics and other options such as polarization and mirror coating.

“You can find a pair of sunglasses on the rack that costs $15 or $20 and meets the UV protection and construction standards and you can buy a pair for $150 that’s locked behind some case that doesn’t meet any standards,” said Dr. Pitts. “Price just isn’t a good way determine the quality of sunglasses.”

Children don’t need sunglasses, do they?

Children are at particular risk because they’re in the sun much more than adults and their eyes are more sensitive as well. UV damage is cumulative over a person’s lifetime, which means you should begin protecting your child’s eyes as soon as possible.

Most parents would not allow their children to go outside without shoes, yet many seem unaware of the need to protect their children’s eyes.

Oval, round, rectangular, cat-eye and geometric shapes are all popular in cool, sophisticated colors like green, blue, tortoise and black. Metal frames are very popular, but so are plastic sunglass frames that look like scaled-down versions of trendy adult styles. Also, sporty styles for kids like wraparound are available in miniature adult editions.
